THE GREATNESS OF AMERICA

How can one even sum up the picture of the Tomb of the Unknowns below?

Inside that marble tomb are the remains of unknown Americans known only to God but who gave all for their nation. Inside of that tomb is a little piece of every American and it is right and fitting that we guard that tomb 24/7 but it is worth pointing out that the US Army soldiers standing watch come from The Old Guard, the 3rd Infantry Regiment, and they have walked their post in a military manner since 1948, without missing one single second. They are akin to the Roman Legionairre who stood his post in Pompeii (“Faithful unto Death“). They are the best America has to offer and THEY should be the example that our sons aspire to be like; not some crybaby millionaire playing football or whiny ass script reader living in La-La land. Indeed, the US Government should be touting men like these, and the men and women in the US Marines who guard our Embassies across the globe, to be role models for our youth.

Rest in Peace Warriors, you will never be forgotten and you will be guarded by your fellow Americans until the end of time.

The Old Guard stands fast in the face of Hurricane Sandy. BTW, can someone tell Obama that the pointy things on the ends of those stick-like thingies are called bayonets.

  1. I would imagine that these men would ignore an order from Obama to stand down.

At the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial here in Jacksonville, it was hot. It was the end of June, and very hot for that time of the year. There were speakers from every service, including Coast Guard. I recall that the representative of the US Navy was NOT blessed with brevity, and it got hotter. Each service had a color guard, and of course Marines were holding the National Colors. When the Marine representative rose to speak (saving the best for last), he said that he was most likely the oldest man in the crowd, and, other than the Marines in the Color Guards, the hottest. So he was going to do something not normally done. He ordered the Color Guards to stand at ease, and drink some water. All of the men from the other services IMMEDIATELY went to ease, but MajGen RL “E-Tool” Smith had to order the Marines three more times before they agreed to obey him. E-Tool actually raised his voice and said “that’s an order, goddammit!”

I wonder, in todays society, where we find enough good men to fill our ranks, in all services. I imagine, unless WE CHANGE IT, in twenty years, the Tomb will be unguarded. I hope I’m in the ground if that happens.

Semper Fi, to all Good Men.

  2. God bless’em. While the criminals currently running the gov’t hunkered down, here are THESE examples of American Exceptionalism, unimpeded in doing their duty.
