First the idiots in the public sector unions in Wisconsin whine about Scott Walker and then initiate a recall, amongst other things, and we find out that in 2007, 59% of Fourth Grade White kids, 83% of Latino kids, and 89% of black kids CANNOT read at their grade level! In other words, the public schools in Wisconsin suck yet the unions want more and more money and better benefits for turning out a lousy product. (2009)
Next, the dirtbags in Chicago go on strike and leave the students NOT in private schools in the lurch but hey, the schools are open so the kids can eat breakfast and lunch there!
FACT: Chicago spends over 13,000 dollars per student.
FACT: Chicago teachers rake in OVER 76,000 bucks a year in salary.
FACT: The average family in Chicago earns 47,000 bucks a year.
FACT: Chicago teachers pay only 3% of their health-care costs.
FACT: Chicago pays 71 cents out of every new public school dollar goes to the cost of the teacher’s retirement costs.
The deal they REJECTED included a 16% raise over four years at a time when 88 MILLION Americans are OUT OF WORK and/or NO LONGER looking for work and 46 MILLION Americans are on food stamps!
Now don’t get the Gunny wrong, Chicago can fall into the lake and would not be missed, especially if all of the libs there, including the domestic terrorist William Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dorhn all drown in the lake.
But here is where America gets screwed. These public school teachers and their unions simply don’t give a fat rat’s ass about teaching these kids because if they DID, they would not be turning out functionally illiterate idiots who can’t think past their noses and who have no idea who to operate in our Republic and THAT SUCKS! This is NOT limited to Chicago or Wisconsin either because in DC, where they pay over 20K PER STUDENT, they turn out so many idiots who can barely think or read,or write or do math that it is estimated that 50% of the population of DC is functionally illiterate. Now while this is great for keeping idiots voting for Democrats and more and more handouts, it is killing the Republic.
BTW, it is not the teacher’s fault alone, its stupid Democrats and RINOs calling for lower standards because the kids don’t meet the mark in the first place and lowering standards NEVER works, just look at the US military, who is taking Mental Category III and IV and then they experience a rise in suicides, disciplinary issues, etc. In fact, McNamara’s 100,000 as an exercise in futility when they cleaned out jails and allowed felons to enlist in the US Military who then spent the next few years tossing the bums out with bad conduct or dishonorable discharges! Never lower standards, RAISE EM and then DEMAND that they meet the mark, and then enforce it. It nearly always works because kids are self-motivated to learn, its in our genes.
In closing, maybe it is high time to get rid of unions who have turned from organizations that HELPED American workers into nothing but money laundering schemes that enrich the union bosses (350K salaries) and take union dues and route them to Democrats who then turn around and help their union buddies. Rest assured, Obama will get involved with the Chicago issue and help his buddy Rahmmie the Ballerina fix it. Of course the Federal Government will use our tax dollars as a salve to cover the boo-boo. It is a damn shame and a slam on Democrats and unions that America is not #1 in education in the world and they’re undermining the foundation of the Republic by turning out a shitty product. Maybe parents need to wake the hell up and yank their kids OUT of public schools, demand charter schools, demand school vouchers, and let the public schools died on the vine.

Gunny- I guess I’ll comment here. I mean this with the utmost respect for you and your commenters. But this entire post along with the National Review article is Bullshit.
1st- The 16% increase offer is correct, however, they failed to mention that the city want to raise the insurance expenditures to 10%. Basically, that means a 2% PAY increase every year. Not 16%

Absolutely not true. Their deductible is 3% roughly. But they pay 80% of their own benefits. It comes out of their package.
The teachers strike was set into motion by 1 person, and 1 person only. Rahmbo. He made campaign promises that the budget wouldn’t allow. (Hiring more CPD) Gang violence is up. What is his recourse? Keep the animals in the zoo 3 hours longer. That will help reflect off of his broken promises. Here’s the problem. Let’s keep the kids in school for 3 extra hours a day.

Gunny the irony is in Chicago 38% of teachers send their kids to private schools as do most teachers across the country with an average approaching 50%.

I remember back in ’68 I was living in an apartment complex where a bunch of school teachers lived. About 3/4 or maybe more admitted they had become teachers to avod the draft. In the afternoon they’d be hoisting beers and laughing about how they, “…stuck it to those little bastards..” During a poolside political discussion I was called a facist by one who then couldn’t correctly define facism. And. Because I hadn’t gone to college I was pretty much looked down on as an ignoramous. And I was dumbass because I’d put 6 in the Navy.
