Concerning Guadalcanal Gunny, from 08/22/42 thru 02/08/43 the USAAF 67th Pursuit Squadron helped your brother Marines hold Henderson Field and the island. I know they got to Guadalcanal in their P-400′s (the export version of the P-39) two days later than VMF-223 (Maj. John Smith commanding, Medal of Honor) and VMSB-232; but like you I too spoke to one or two of the 67th pilots who were there. It was pure hell for everyone. But not only did they hold the island, they chewed up the Japanese ground and air forces sent to re-take it.
It is good to remember these Marines, Soldiers, Pilots, and Sailors at Guadalcanal. They gave us an example not unlike Valley Forge, Little Round Top, and Omaha Beach. And that example is that no matter how tough it gets, we must NOT back down. We MUST re-claim our country from the trash now sitting in the White House.
(And I hope to see criminal investigations start in early 2013.)
