is going BACK to what worked GREAT! Now dump the sissified 5.56mm and get back to a REAL round, the 30.06. (The Gunny needs MORE MilSurp ammo)
There is NOTHING like 230 grains between the running lights to neutralize a threat.
EXCERPT: “It’s been called the greatest handgun ever made, and it has barely changed sine 1911, when the legendary John Browning designed it especially for the U.S. Military. And now, the Colt .45 M1911 is making a big comeback, now that the U.S. Marines have placed a $22.5 million order for the Connecticut-made pistols. The gun, which has been wielded on film by John Wayne and in real life by Sgt. Alvin York and Maj. Audie Murphy, was the standard-issue sidearm in the military for decades, until it was replaced by the Beretta M9 in 1985 (and Marines were NOT happy, Corporal Gunny among them! haha). Colt Defense, based in Hartford, Conn., will supply as many as 12,000 of the 200,000 U.S. Marines with semi-automatic, tan-colored M45 Close Quarter Battle Pistols, and they will include spare parts and logistical support. The gun has long been the weapon of choice for special operations agents, thanks to its reliability and the stopping power of its massive bullets.”
The Gunny’s choice of .45acp and got it in two-tone. (13rd magazine, night sights, Picatinny rail…)

It’s strange though that 12k of them are being issues to the Corps. Why not just supply them all with .45′s? If memory serves, I know from first-hand experience that both MARSOC and the Force Recon boys are already using Springfield Armory-rebuilt Colt .45′s, and have been using them from at least 2006 onwards.
Why NATO, and especially the U.S., decided to go with those mamby-pamby Nazi Germany rounds way back when is a damned mystery to me….
I myself prefer the H&K USP .45 for it’s ability to give you an extra 5 lead friends to give chase, it’s excellent handling (ambidextrous for us lefties
), and the surprisingly low recoil
Also, wasn’t sure if you’d heard about this Gunny, but I though I’d pass it on in any case:

I know the Corps is the best QRF to any kind of shit happening in the world, hands down. But turning them into “cops”? That’s more of a job best suited for the Luggage Army, or even better suited for the Chair Force….
My dad shot expert with a .45 in USAF basic training in 1949. That’s when there was a real Air Force, not the air fags of today. The PC social engineering in my beloved Air Force and the rest of the U.S. military needs to end. Reinstate the ban on homos, purge all of the PC perfumed prince general officers, and place women in non combat support roles only.
I could not agree more. I met an old AF guy from the 40s-50s and he was SHOCKED at what the AF has become.
Look, I could be wrong, but would some one explain to me why NATO still exists and why we are still a member? The Russians are not going to send any thing other than natural gas through the Fulda gap. NATO as I see it has out lived its reason for being. Today it is nothing more than a monied scam for politicians, purfumed generals and the parasite defense contractors.
I am delighted to see that the 45 is coming back. About time. Now if we can lose the AR rifles. In combat you are supposed to kill the SOB not wound him. The only good enemy is a dead enemy.
The idea is, is that a wounded troop requires care and other troops to evac, etc. But the 30.06 can’t be beat!
Gunny, I do understand the theory that a wounded soldier burdens more personal and ties up more material. Hell, I will agree that it is all true. But as I see it, a dead enemy troop can not shoot back at me or my buddies. So the sooner the enemy is dead, the sooner the mission is accomplished, the sooner I get my butt home, the sooner I get to drink beer with my buddies. And the sooner and better chance of getting laid. Works for me. BTW, I work at a VA hospital, so given what I have seen, keeping ones body and mind intact is a high priority. Besides the sooner I make the enemy dead, the sooner he gets to meet his Maker, and get in full what he deserves.
Jeff,
God Bless you for your work at the VA. I agree of course, and Aulus Vitellius got it right, “A dead enemy always smells good.”
And they dont bitch as much when they are dead. I am sure that you are the subject matter expert on how loud, messy battle fields are. lmao
I knew it would happen. It was only a matter of time. The 1911 and the Corps go together like a hand & glove…
The only drawback to going back to the .30-06 is the weight of the round when packing for the field.
True but maybe a composite case can be developed to lighten the case weight.
Or, we should go back to hitting what we shoot at. The more rounds you pack, the more you waste. One shot, one kill, but if the gay troops are in flagrante, or whatever, one shot, two kills.
one shot, two kills…..hahahahahahha!
I agree. I’m wondering if a composite cartridge can be made to lighten the weight of the round.
I KNEW IT !
I knew it was only a matter of time until the Corps returned to the ’11.
Hope you’ve got stock in Colt.
Wonder how long it’ll take the Army to do the same?
I still have the 1911A1 that I qualified with back in 1971 (the supply sarge knew my Dad from North Africa in WW2 and looked the other way). I am now on barrel number 3 and will probably replace the springs some time this year. It has been my constant companion for many years and has never failed me yet.
The .45 in the photo looks nice. I will have to check it out.
GG,
LOVE my XD. Gave my Ruger P90TH (.45) to my son. His graduation present is an M-1 Garand from CMP!
Well thank God! It’s about damn time.
The M1911 is by far the best pistol ever made. 230 grains of raw stopping power.
One of the biggest mistakes in modern military history was changing to the 9 mil. The good news is ours were better than the Russkies. My brother shot himself (in the mirror) with a 9 mil Dad brought home from Grenada. After going through the mirror, the round didn’t penetrate the sheetrock behind it. Still scared the crap out of baby brother, but probably wouldn’t have hurt him much if he’d shot himself instead of the mirror.
The .45 is sooo much more a killer of whatever you’re shooting.
By the way, eat at Chick-Fil-A tomorrow. New post at my place.
LOVE Chick-Fil-A, their shakes rock!
Dad packed a .45 in WW2, my uncles in Korea, and me in the Corps until 1986. Sold my 9mm for a 1911 and never looked back.
How the hell did Pres.Jarrett authorize this? Gotta be a mistake. She wouldn’t do ANYTHING to help the troops.
I have always wanted a 1911 but its so expensive, that sidearm you pictured is sooooooooo sweet looking! would love to have one.
500 bucks. Might get one cheaper on gunbroker.com. However, if money is a problem, try checking out Mossberg’s 930SPX. Fucking lethal ass autoshottie.
Thanks I will
I do have a mossberg pump with a 18 1/2 inch barrel also a 36inch barrel for hunting. Thats my home protection, but god I would love to have that pistol …..some day if the economy ever picks up.
A good shotgun is all you really need. THE most destructive device you can own. 000. 00. Slugs. nasty stuff.
Wish they’d make a concealable .45 auto that can hold at least 7+1. The single stack XD(m) .45, like the Glock 36, both great guns, holds 5+1. I’d feel hamstrung like I do with a wheel gun. Most of them hold 6. Something to think about.
Check out the Springfield XD cut down version.
I find that the best way to carry concealed with my .45 is a shoulder rig.
I carry a Para Ordinance 10 or Para 10 a nice little double stack that holds ten rounds and one in the chamber,I had to add a finger extension to get a better grip that works pretty well for me. Also I have a Glock 30 commander size 45 that came with a ten round mag but can also hold the 13 round mag I like to carry mine in a shoulder holster too.
God bless the Marine Corps! I’m proud of them for bucking the flow and reaching back and grabbing a winner! That just proves that real men can admit they made a mistake. There is a lesson for the cry baby in chief! The lesson of course is : he aint to man!
Jim,
The reason we went to the 9mm back in the 80′s was to secure bases in Italy, or so I’ve heard. More NATO bullshit rammed down our throat.
I know, tha twas also why they chose the “Stove Pipe Special”. Had many a debate with people over why they shouldn’t have done it, many them I settle on the range at 25 yards! Man them .45s can group tight!
Gunny,
Never understood y they went to 9mm parabelum? My Colt Gov issue is dead in accurate and it’s bone stock! I love that gun!!!
